Warm Fire Cheatgrass Perimeter Monitoring: May 12-18, 2010
Overview
Join us for a week of ecological monitoring on the east side of the beautiful Kaibab Plateau. The Warm Fire burned 58,000 acres of the central and eastern portions of the Kaibab Plateau in June of 2006. Given the high likelihood of cheatgrass (a highly invasive, non-native grass) invasion at lower elevations of the burn area, our volunteers are working with the Forest Service to assess the distribution and spread of cheatgrass in these areas. The information we collect will help Forest Service staff identify areas of highest priority for cheatgrass management and restoration work. Volunteers will assist in measuring the presence of native and non-native species by day, and in the evenings enjoy wonderful, starry nights and great food and company.
